Highly Recommended. Consider this book an investment.

My philosophy is to make a fortune, not save a fortune. That said, I don't want to waste money either, While reading "The One Week Budget: Learn to Create Your Money Management System in 7 Days or Less!" I decided to examine more closely where my money go. I found that I can save about $400 a month. I kid you not. It will take some doing and in some cases getting used to but it's worth the effort.

Besides inspiring me to save some money and providing me with tips on how to do it, the book also debunked some of my preconceptions. Consolidating credit cards, for example. I had no idea what was involved! Now I know.

Subject of the book - How to properly budget your finances through simple system of cutting expenses and maximizing savings via setting financial goals, using automation to pay bills, and making sure you have effective financial goals.

Audience - Younger People. 'Young, Fabulous and Broke' . Though the methods in the book will work for almost everyone.

Style - Clear, Engaging, Witty.

Difficulty Level - Easy. Author worked as a teacher so she is good at explaining the subject matter. Plus it does not take long to learn how to use Excel :)

Highly Recommended. Consider this book an investment.

Finally - A Practical guide With Realistic Goals and an easy process!!!

After years of attempting to pay down my debt, "The One Week Budget" came along with practical steps to not only pay down debt, but to SAVE as well. This is a must read! The Budgetnista walks you through each part of the process and shares her personal testimony on how she was able to manage her finances through debt reduction and savings. Her wisdom is so practical that you will see immediate solutions and gain. When you complete your worksheet reality will set in but forge ahead anyway. When you begin to apply her principals you'll be able to go back to the worksheet and see how far you came. Best book on finance I've ever had...and I've had many. It's life changing!!!!

I'm sorry, Budgetnista, but your book just didn't do it for me. You should have budgeted for an editor, first of all. There are issues such as typos, incorrect grammar, and punctuation abuse on every page, which really distracted from your message.... especially since you're an ex schoolteacher!
Beyond that, I just didn't find the advice or budget charts useful. This book may work for young women under the age of 22, but so much of your advice and charts are redundant to fill page space; additionally, your advice is just not possible for working professionals (especially those with children). For example, you advise people with a large amount of debt to move in with their parents?! That is just not an option for most working professionals!
I also found it extremely odd that you chose to use "Bella" as an example. Bella makes double or triple the income of your target audience! And how in the hell does Bella only spend $300 a month on her children? It's completely irrational and unreasonable.
Another sore spot arose when I was reading your blog, and came across a statement from you advising people to foreclose on their houses---you stated that you have not paid your mortgage but have been squatting in your foreclosed house for six years. I was completely aghast! This discredited you completely as a financial expert. People like you are the reason for the mortgage crisis.
Furthermore you suggest people use Primerica for life insurance. Primerica is a powerfully terrifying multilevel marketing scheme that people should run fast and far away from at all costs!
I appreciate low cost of this book and your upbeat attitude and conversational style, but I would never recommend this book to my peers.

Four Titillating Halloween Treats

If you are looking for a few sexy treats this Halloween, then look no further. Alexa Riley knows the way to your sweet tooth and has the ability to awaken your dirtiest fantasies.

The newest treat, Halloween Treat, is everything you've come to expect from Alexa Riley. The hero, Jack, has never looked at any woman the way he looks at Raven. Raven doesn't want to believe that he sees her as anything other than his nephew's teacher. But Jack is ready to make his move, and Raven is going to learn just how deep his feelings run for her. When Jack makes his first move, my heart skips a beat with his demands. His take charge attitude to stunning and there is way the reader or Raven can deny his anything. This short story is completely captivating and deliciously satisfying.

Buy Me 3 is the hypnotizing tale of Many and Charles. Mandy had been working with Charles for the last thirty days, and now she's decided to enter into the Mistress Auction. When Charles learns of his girl's decision, he finally puts plans in place to claim his girl once and for all. The differences between the two are compared to as a devil and angel. Mandy doesn't understand Charles and his actions, but she's willing to see where this relationship can go. Charles' protectiveness and domination could cause some to turned off, but as you learn more about him, you can't help but fall in love with him completely. This short story is mesmerizing story about two people who have to go through many ups and downs to finally find their way to each other.

Riding Red is the alluring story about the new girl in town, Ruby moved into Gray Ridge hoping for a fresh start. When Dominic sets eyes on her, something inside him switches on and he knows he's just seen the woman he's fated to spend the rest of his life with. Ruby doesn't know about the people in this town are not what they seem, they are shifters. Dominic makes it known that she is his, and when the time is right, he going to claim once and for all. This story is primal and aminalist, but the love that flows between the two is passionate and intense. This is seductive new take on Little Red Ridding Hood.

Taking What's Wicked is the spellbinding story that revolves around Dante, Porter and Sabrina. Sabrina is out on Halloween night, looking for a little fun and a way to release some pent up frustration. But Sabrina's takes a drastic turn when Dante and Porter set their eyes on the sexy little witch. Sabrina gets taken several times rough and hard, but things aren't what they seem. There is more to the story between these three bewitching individuals. This story contains content that some may find hard to shallow, but the ending is worth the wait. It's a wickedly tempting read that slightly naughtier than your average Alexa Riley story. I was pleasantly surprised with this enthralling mischievous short story.

"Halloween Treats" is by author Alexa Riley.
My Rating: 4 Stars

"Halloween Treats" is a bundle deal. Included there are three previously released novellas: "Buy Me 3," "Riding Red," and "Taking What's Wicked." And one new story, "Halloween Treats."

"Halloween Treats" is a very short, intense romance about an elementary school teacher, Raven Treat, and the uncle of one of her students, Jack Bates. I actually lucked out when purchasing this bundle since I've only read one of the four, "Riding Red."

As in standard Alexa Riley fashion, we have an obsessive, possessive hero who will do anything to claim his girl. Jack is the gorgeous uncle of one of her students and has been crushing on Raven pretty obviously for a while. However it isn't obvious to her. Raven is pretty naive. Finally after Jack decides he's had enough of waiting for her to admit her feelings for him, he becomes the aggressor. I liked Jack. A lot. Although he was the typical demanding AR alpha, Jack was not mean. Yes, he stalked and he claimed but he was a man in love. He was romantic and sexy and sweet. And although Jack wasn't inexperienced, nor was he a virgin, he was definitely no manwhore.

Raven was inexperienced and a little shy. But she was also intelligent and confident. In other words, she wasn't the typical AR "doormat." That said, I give "Halloween Treats" a four star rating. *Note...The other novellas will have separate reviews posted individually. But I will list the star ratings below:

Riding Red

In this steamy fairy-tale reboot, wolf shifter Dominic, discovers his mate when the delectably curvy heroine, Ruby, comes to town and buys his family bakery. The catch-she's human and doesn't know she's his mate..yet. This was a cute and charming read.

Taking What's Wicked
3 stars
This threesome really had me wondering what I was reading when I started their story! Questionable consent (with everything becoming clear at the end), Dante, Porter, and Sabrina push the limits outside the bar, in the van, at the cabin... This story was okay, but a smidge out of my comfort zone.

Halloween Treats

After a bit of careful maneuvering, Jack finally gets the nerve to ask sexy teacher, Raven Treat, out for a date. Raven and Jack's story contains insta-love and some sexy sizzle..along with a sweet ending..perfect read for a lazy afternoon!

great format

i love how barron's presents their vocab thematically. i also love that this book comes with an audio mp3 disc and includes sentences that enable you to learn the words in useful contexts.

because i don't think enough info is provided regarding the mp3s, i'll tell you about them. the mp3s simply state the spanish words/phrases/example sentences in the order that they appear in the book. the english counterparts aren't stated. so basically the mp3s are useful as a pronunciation guide, to improve listening comprehension, and for review.

Red ink is a problem, otherwise great

I purchased this as an aid for a Spanish conversation class I'm taking and am very pleased with its general layout, grouping terms by category. I was also pleased to see it has an index, so that if you are not sure what name they would give the topic you want, but know one term that belongs in it, you can look up the term and find the page(s) with more on-topic vocabulary.

The vocabulary CD that came with the book nicely provides native pronunciation of the vocabulary, grouped by topic as in the book. (I haven't checked to see how complete it is, but it seems to track the book with both terms and examples.) Note that the CD does not provide English translation, however, and so cannot be used for self-testing of active recollection of terminology, but it will adequately reinforce the passive recognition of it. (A big plus is that it does not have the ubiquitous beep, which is so annoying in the CD accompanying Barron's 501 Spanish Verbs!)

That being said, I sincerely hope the publishers will reconsider their choice of RED INK for the Spanish text. Generally I want any unfamiliar terms--in this case, the Spanish--to jump out to my eye. Knowing English, it is easier for me to recognize fuzzy English printing than it is to interpret faded print in Spanish.
What Barron's has done, however, is to use clear black type for the English side of the vocabulary lists and a brownish red for the Spanish. Even in boldface, the red ink is very hard to read at a glance, but reading at a glance is what you want for finding suitable vocabulary quickly. In fact looking at it here at my desk beside the computer, more light seems to reflect off the side of the page with red ink than off the side with black, even though it is obviously the same paper. I feel I need to squint looking at the red print, but have no such reaction to the black.
And heaven help anyone trying to read this in low light, where I expect the red will disappear entirely.
A dark blue would have been a much better choice, I think.

I am rather disappointed with this book

I am rather disappointed with this book. The layout is fine but the major problem I have is that the sentence structures are generally not accurate and the word choices are not accurate, especially for Latin American Spanish. The book tries to distinguish when a word is Latin American or Spanish in its usage, but it doesn't seem very accurate. Several of my Spanish speaking friends have looked at the book and said that they would not say or write things the way they are in the book.

Don DeLillo's second novel, a sort of Dr. Strangelove meets North Dallas Forty, solidified his place in the American literary landscape in the early 1970s. The story of an angst-ridden, war-obsessed running back for Logos College in West Texas, End Zone is a heady and hilarious conflation of Cold War existentialism and the parodied parallelism of battlefield/sports rhetoric. When not arguing nuclear endgame strategy with his professor, Major Staley, narrator Gary Harkness joins a brilliant and unlikely bunch of overmuscled gladiators on the field and in the dormitory. In characteristic fashion, DeLillo deliberately undermines the football-is-combat cliché by having one of his characters explain: "I reject the notion of football as warfare. Warfare is warfare. We don't need substitutes because we've got the real thing." What remains is an insightful examination of language in an alien, postmodern world, where a football player's ultimate triumph is his need to play the game.

About the Author
Don DeLillo published his first short story when he was twenty-three years old. He has since written twelve novels, including White Noise (1985) which won the National Book Award. It was followed by Libra (1988), his novel about the assassination of President Kennedy, and by Mao II, which won the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction.

In 1997, he published the bestselling Underworld, and in 1999 he was awarded the Jerusalem Prize, given to a writer whose work expresses the theme of the freedom of the individual in society; he was the first American author to receive it. He is also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Football, War Games, Mock Picnics, Exobiology, Dark Sunglasses

"End Zone," Don Delillo's second novel, isn't so much DeLillo primer as it is like a few strokes of some of the themes DeLillo might (and in some cases will) touch on later. It's definitely not his greatest work and if you're new to his stuff I'd point you in the direction of something like "Libra" or "White Noise," both of which came later in DeLillo's career and (for me) pick apart more interesting subjects.

Think about the desert. Almost no air, nothing much moving, just dirt or sand and rocks, the sun beating down on you as you make your way across. That's what reading parts of "End Zone" feels like, which is convenient, because the book is set in a desertish part of Texas with almost no air, nothing much moving, just dirt or sand and rocks, etc. The barren landscape (not a beautiful picture once you conjure it up for a period of reading even a short book such as this one) matches the sparse, dry sentences that make up much of the conversation, most of which can be breezed through so quickly because it's so emotionless. Every now and then though one of the book's over-the-top characters will get rolling on a subject such as nuclear war or a passage from a science fiction book or football that halfway through you might wonder where it is you're going. For the most part, the things people say in this book aren't things they would say in real life. College athletes don't worry about these kinds of things. That's where DeLillo's super creative and makes them obsessed with language, personal history and (for the narrator) nuclear war in all of its glory which he doesn't understand and the knowledge of which he desires to consume more and more.

I don't know where the concepts of sport-as-war and athlete-as-warrior came from, though the way DeLillo uses them feels and sounds dated. You'll feel like he's exhausted every symbol and metaphor he could come with by the time you're say 70% of the way through the book. This isn't to say that he doesn't make things interesting! One of the narrator's professors says that he rejects the concept of sport as warfare; warfare is warfare, no substitute required because they have the real thing. It's a rare antithetical moment to probably the most obvious thing in the book, its whole preoccupation. Reading about the players in practice is like reading military drill, the game like slow reenactments of battle. The second third or so of the book details almost play-by-play an important game; it's vivid, excruciating, and you won't find it anywhere else.

In short, "End Zone" makes the same point over and over again, and with the way DeLillo uses language, he'll probably drop some readers here and there. It's hard to know for sure 100% if you know what he's saying, not just in "End Zone" but in some of his other books as well. DeLillo is one of my favorite writers though and "End Zone" simply just isn't my favorite, though it is good and intriguing and whatnot. It's his second book and even though it's obvious he has a knack for writing from the start, trust me, he just gets better. See "The Names" (1982) and "White Noise" (1985) and "Libra" (1988) and if you've got time (and it'd be completely worth it) take on "Underworld" (1997) which besides being a great book also doubles as a desk.

Oh and remember: much of DeLillo's work is meant to be funny, even though he might be completely serious... right?

FNL goes to small college and much more

This is the first Don DeLillo book I've read and I liked it from page one, loved it through page N-1 (N approx. = 250), and then was a little let down. I am kind of a closure freak, though, and N-2 pages of great reading makes for a hard-to-beat experience. The plot line here is pretty straightforward. It can be described as Friday Night Lights goes to small college, some curricular concerns occasionally surface (more in the form of dorm-room banter than classroom enlightenment), and the characters show sporadic signs of maturity or at least approximations thereof. The plot takes enough interesting twists that the book sustains itself well. (It would be ideal for a transcontinental flight.) The main strengths of the book are its characters and their alternatingly witty, trenchant, and--the closer you get to the football field and coaches--ludicrously vacuous dialogue. Highly entertaining and highly recommended; convinced me to read more DeLillo.

This is not a book about football.

If you enjoy language and irony, you will love End Zone. The setting is a small Texas college. Attention is focused on the football team, their preparations, and a struggle to gain the 60 yard line in a game with a team they know is superior. The moves are communicated in pre-arranged codes. They get beaten to a pulp. The fans don't really understand that they have been badly physically injured. All they see are the codes and the action. The college gives a program in ROTC in which the hero-narrator excels. The language of technology in warfare is given, but the significance of the damage done to humans can't actually be realized behind the language. The author claims this book is not about warfare. I think it would be fair to say that it is not only about warfare, but the many aspects of our realities that are hidden behind language, such as the cliches that are expressed at funerals and death. The slogans and homilies distance us from the pain of it.

This all is very serious, but every page has a laugh, which I think brings us closer to the truths.

Excellent writing, with material and information not accessible elsewhere

Surprisingly fantastic book. Very easy read, super important info, and by far the best treatment on the subject anywhere - nothing compares to this online. And from my understanding, this is pretty much the only book of it's kind, and a darn good one. Should be considered required reading if you are at all series about Scuba diving.

A great book! It all finally makes total sense! I am not a dummy and have medical education under the belt but some concepts of decompression still didn't make sense. Now I finally understand how different models work and why. A must for any tec or tec aspiring diver.

About the Author
Joel Spring received his Ph.D. in educational policy studies from the University of Wisconsin. He is currently a Professor at Queens College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. His great-great-grandfather was the first Principal Chief of the Choctaw Nation in Indian Territory and his grandfather, Joel S. Spring, was a local district chief at the time Indian Territory became Oklahoma. He currently teaches at Queens College of the City University of New York. His major research interests are history of education, multicultural education, Native American culture, the politics of education, global education, and human rights education. He is the author of over twenty books and the most recent are How Educational Ideologies are Shaping Global Society; Education and the Rise of the Global Economy; The Universal Right to Education: Justification, Definition, and Guidelines; Globalization and Educational Rights; and Educating the Consumer Citizen: A History of the Marriage of Schools, Advertising, and Media.

This is a book all educators should read. It tells about the backgrounds of our students and gives you better insight to some struggles they may have been up against. Great read.

Deculturalization and the Struggles for Equality

Joel Spring has a gift. In his simple and straightforward way he lets the reader know exactly what went on, is going on, and what may eventually happen if no one does anything to intervene or right the wrongs that have been made. There is no swaying or bias in his writing, but simple and plain facts. I thoroughly enjoyed reading his book....some chapters more than others, but all were good.

Interesting read

The material in this book has taught me a lot of how the struggle for equity continues to be a challenge for minorities even in today's world. We've made strides in race relations and improvement of equality but the fear and the constant move to take away peoples culture continues and leaves minorities asking if true equity is even possible. Good book!!
