About the Author
Dr San Cristóbal has been a teacher at the University of Cantabria, Spain, since 1998. He obtained his PhD in 2004. His area of work is economics (input/output) and management science/operations research in general, applied to several fields. His research has focused on fields such as input/output and natural resources; investment criteria and cogeneration plants; linear programming models and environment; multi-criteria analysis in renewable energies; and multi-objective programming models in project management.

A real 1893 Catalog of great doors, staircases, & Trim

This is apparently a reprint of one of the really great old catalogs of Victorian Millwork! It has fabulous designs for window ornamentation, verandas, brackets, gable ends, fireplace mantels and most especially doors. Black & White sketches show an impressive variety of ideas.

This is a good reference to the time period. This is not a "how to" book but rather a period catalog expertly reproduced. This book is good for someone who is interested in creating a home with elements from the late Victorian era.

I'm a nerd for antique millwork so I LOVE this book

I'm a nerd for antique millwork so I LOVE this book. It's from 1893, and predictably the products it depicts are heavy on Victorian frills. Craftsman is more my taste, so I'd love it if they'd release something similar from the 1910's. Still really awesome seeing the old molding profiles, sash construction, what sorts of glass was available, etc.

What I love about this book is the short, anecdotal method of delivery. It's very easy to read and comprehend, with short chapters and tons of stories. Dave is not kidding about his willingness to reach out and communicate with anyone, and I was very appreciative of the time he spent with me on the phone. Definitely one of my top 10 non-fiction books.

Assuming that you believe you are not 100% perfect in your communications and people skills at work, home and anywhere else (and if you think you're perfect, you need a reality check lol!), this book is a must read for you! Dave Kerpen really nails every aspect of the topics covered while keeping you entertained, focused and learning all at the same time. I couldn't recommend this book more.

Radio transmission is briefly discussed before sub-circuits are described, from mixer/oscillators through to output stages. Example sets suitable for the improving restorer are described, then fault-finding and full electronic restoration techniques are thoroughly explained, together with an arrowed and numbered exemplar circuit diagram. The repair and restoration of all types of cabinet plus an appendix packed with useful data and information brings the book to the glossary and index. Even before the very start of public broadcasting in the early 1920s, valves - vacuum tubes - were essential, first to the development and then to the rapid advancement of radio and television. By the 1930s, superbly made Art Deco-inspired cabinets housed complex and sophisticated chassis populated with valves. For 50 years or thereabouts, valves – vacuum tubes - remained the bedrock upon which the technology of electronics -radio, television, audio, recorded sound, telecommunications - was built. Vintage radios are often attractive and elegant objects in themselves, well worthy of collection - but they are far from typical antiques; once restored they come to life. Their glowing scales and the warm, full sound of their valves is a revelation to those who experience it for the first time. About the author Since the age of twelve, Tony Thompson BSc., Cert. Ed. has held a lifelong interest in valve radio technology. As a boy he built radios and amplifiers. He qualified as a radio and television engineer and worked in educational television programme production. He opened his own TV, Hi-Fi and video servicing business and was for many years the Head of the Faculty of Design, Technology and Art in a Yorkshire secondary school. This is a very useful book to restoring vintage radios, I find to many information about radio electronics, but in my opinion the beginers must have basic knowledge, some experience and hability in electronics to get a better help from this book, this isnot a recipe cooking book.

About the Author

Kief Morris has been designing, building, and running automated IT server infrastructure for nearly twenty years, having started out with shell scripts and Perl, moving on to CFengine, Puppet, Chef, and Ansible among other technologies as they’ve emerged. He is the head of ThoughtWorks’ European practice for Continuous Delivery and DevOps, helping clients find more effective ways of building and managing infrastructure operations.

Solid Attempt To Define The Cloud

Infrastructure as Code shows modern techniques to use the cloud. The beginning chapters detailed the differences between the "Iron Age" of infrastructure and newer cloud based methods. Scripts are shown often to show how you would actually setup some cloud based instances. The author has a preference for Ruby and AWS.

The middle portions of the book look at design patterns related to the cloud. Often "anti-patterns" are explored as well to show what not to do. Templating servers and configuration management is detailed.

Part III of the book was basically a summary of DevOps. I found the information to be too general here, and sometimes not that relevant to Infrastructure. To give an example, the author discusses Code Reviews where he says: "All too often, code reviewing becomes a wasteful activity that doesn't lead to improvements actually being made to code. Pair programming is more rigorous, with input from two people leading to better design and improvements made in real time."

The author often states opinions like this, but does not back them up by anything but his opinion. There was no evidence provided to show that code reviews are wasteful, while pair programming boosts productivity. Maybe this has been the case for the author, but I would have liked to seen more evidence for a lot of his claims. A lot of the asides in the book were taken from the author's personal experiences and used to prove something.

I found the stronger parts of the book where the author shows configurations and details. Parts in which the author relied on personal experiences and generalizations were not as good. Overall though, this was an informative book that is helping define the new rules for cloud based architectures.

Hans Urs von Balthasar (1905-88), a Swiss theologian and priest, is considered by many the most important Catholic theologian of the twentieth century. Incredibly prolific and diverse, he wrote over one hundred books and many hundreds of articles. A favorite theologian and spiritual writer of Pope Francis, as well as the two previous Popes, he was called "the most cultured man of our time" by Henri de Lubac, and Karl Rahner described his achievements as "really breathtaking."

an absolute beauty

in this short meditation on the apostle's creed, von balthasar gives us a summary of his own theolgy, firmly based in the Trinity and Fatherhood of God; firmly Catholic and saturated in the orthodox doctrine of the Church. it's too bad that this book wasn't five hundred pages, but the strength of this book and the Truth to which it points can, i think, best be sought and got in prayer; a truth which von balthasar new well enough. this book is an absolute beauty, and i highly recommend it.

The author discusses the Creed by analizing each line with a depth one wouldn't expect from such a short book. This is definitely a quick and easy read, but it's also deep in meaning. You will gain a deeper understanding of the Creed by reading, and all things considered, this is well worth your money.
